What is the News Room?
A safe online space for you to discuss topical news stories, share your views and listen to others. There's a constant flow of news stories and headlines coming at us from all angles – increasingly covering stories about racism, police brutality, the mis-treatment of marginalised groups, anti-racism, racial gaslighting and more. If you feel anything like we do, then you're probably feeling exhausted, overwhelmed, fatigued and fed up.
The information (and misinformation) we are exposed to is fuelling a lot of the conversations we have with our family, friendship groups and peers on a day-to-day basis. It's important to acknowledge that everyone responds to the information we get from the media very differently, which can generate a lot of uncomfortable and challenging conversations. The media, including social media, plays a huge role in heightening the polarisation of issues. Whilst social media can be a valuable platform for interaction between people of different views, it can also be a breeding ground for vicious behaviour.
What we hope this space will achieve for you:
The opportunity to have conversations about the news safely and constructively
To learn how to become more vigilant of fake news
To enable you to share your experiences when your family, friends and peers do not share the same views as you
How to use the space:
We will be hosting a range of discussions and engagements in this project space going forward so please keep your eye out. Each time a new engagement is launched, we will also try our best to let you know and keep you updated. If there is a piece of news you'd like to raise for discussion, please send a request below.
We would really love to hear from you so please get involved and share your experiences.

In light of the recent events and tabloids surrounding the ITV interview with Meghan and Harry, it is possible that this has raised some challenging topics of conversation amongst friendship groups and families.
We invite you to take part in a short and anonymous questionnaire to understand the varying views and experiences across the community. We hope to use this information to help us explore the ways we can use the platform to help and support you in having these conversations.
